Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis, also known as co-occurring disorder, refers to the simultaneous presence of a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder in an individual.
About half of people who experience a mental health disorder will also have a substance use disorder at some point in their lives, with the relationship between the two conditions being complex and often interconnected12. The most effective treatment approach for dual diagnosis is an integrated one, where both the mental health issue and the substance use disorder are addressed simultaneously by the same treatment provider or team
